Secrets of Successful Women Revealed
Ever since my early teens, I felt a strong divine calling that my life purpose was to make a bigger impact in this world and to leave a legacy for future generations. I just didn’t know what and how until I experienced a major crisis.
From an early age, I was always a passionate learner of human potential and success. As I grew older, I began my career as a CPA accountant and quickly climbed the corporate ladder, securing coveted finance director positions with several international companies.
Not long after my daughter was born, I had a major crisis. I went into a deep bout of post-natal depression. Motherhood brought me face-to-face with my deep-rooted limiting beliefs and the big question, “What’s my purpose in life?”
Of course, I loved being a mother, but the experience made me revisit almost every aspect of my life that I’d chosen up to that point. What impact did I want to have? How did I want to manifest my strengths? Where did I want to put my energy when I wasn’t a full-time mother?
As I wrestled with my internal demons, I felt confused. Should I have felt guilty that I wanted another role besides being a mother? Or ashamed that I wanted to develop other skills and talents apart from being a parent? If I took time for myself, was I taking it away from others who needed it more, and would I be able to balance my passions and activities? I had a successful career, so why was I thinking of going off in a new direction? I wanted to be a hands-on mother and not miss out any of my little girl’s milestones.
I went on a self-discovery journey. I hired mentors, studied brain plasticity, and I rewired my brain in order to overcome the limiting beliefs that were causing my post-natal depression.
From Crisis to Success & Passion
In my upcoming book, “Reboot! Your Mind: 7 Steps for Working Mothers and Entrepreneurs,” I share that the two most important dates in your life are when you are born and when you find your “why” — your passion and life’s purpose. Research shows that people find their why, or life purpose, after experiencing life challenges.
I turned my crisis into action. I followed my dreams and used my talents in the best possible way. I wanted to make a difference, so I embarked on an entrepreneurial journey. I decided to establish businesses in the field of maximizing human potential and brain development.
I first established the business Brainy Child Education to provide tools and resources to parents and educators to help every child reach their greatest potential. Shortly after, I established a success coaching and training business, with an emphasis on women’s issues. I also focused on the application of what the latest psychological and neuroscience data was telling us about the brain, behavior and transformation.
Results of My Survey of more than 6,000 Women
I wondered whether other women were also dealing with issues similar to those I’d faced after I recovered from my personal crisis. So in August 2014, I conducted an online survey of more than 6,000 women. This is what I found:
- Women have huge difficulties juggling work, life and family commitments.
- Women are natural people pleasers. They are exhausted and overwhelmed by trying to please those around them.
- Women carry worry like it’s another personality sitting on their shoulder. They worry about the future.
- Women are afraid of failure, suffer from a lack of self-worth and carry a sense of not being good enough. They feel disempowered and lack confidence.
- Guilt is almost an inborn trait, as they fear disappointing people.
- Women want to do meaningful work and accomplish something significant in the world.
- What my survey revealed is that even in this so-called age of enlightenment, women still feel afraid to pursue their talents and dreams.
With these factors in mind, I’ve carried my dream through passionately, to educate and provide tools for women to find their voice, passion and purpose.
The Birth of International Conscious Women Community Event
Over the past few months, I’ve been working toward making my goals a reality. With my mission intact, I conceived the International Conscious Women Community online event, which was held for the first time over a five-day period in March 2015.
The event, which was completely free and arranged in partnership with UN Women global charity, aimed at sharing the secrets behind developing a positive mindset, building self-confidence and living a meaningful life.
The experience was empowering. With the participation of world-renowned successful women professionals and thought leaders, I was able to lead discussions about the importance of women supporting other women, and provide a platform for collective sharing and motivation.
Top Secrets for Success
What does it take to be successful?
Here are some of the success secrets I’ve learned based on 25 years of experience and research and learning from many mentors along the way:
1. Success Means Different Things to Different People
Every one of you has special gifts and talents. Discover your unique talents and follow your passion and dream, not someone else’s. Ask yourself what success means to YOU.
2. Overcome Negative Thinking and Beliefs
One of the most difficult challenges I encountered in my life was overcoming my self-doubt and internal fear of the unknown. Over time, I’ve come to realize that our experiences and perceptions, as well as the opinions of others, have a great effect on our ideas of ourselves and what we can do. By breaking away from your limiting beliefs, you will feel more empowered and inspired to reach your full potential.
3. Failure Is Necessary and Inevitable
It’s impossible to go through life without failing at something. Risks are part of success, but they must be calculated and purposeful. Tumbles build character and lead to insight, as long as you pay attention and learn from mistakes. Those who live too cautiously may not fail, but – importantly – they will not grow.
4. Find and Be Your Authentic Self
Don’t be afraid to be your true self and own it. Being successful is about being who you are and learning to work in collaboration with others.
The journey I have been on hasn’t been easy, but it has been worth it. I have learned how to follow my passion and live a purposeful, fulfilling life. I’ve come to realize that self-belief, perseverance, and positive relationships are at the heart of achieving long-lasting and purposeful success.
My Message to the World
No matter where you are in your life journey, know that you are special with important life purpose. Invest the time for self-discovery to uncover your unique talents, your passion and what success means to you!
You are worth it.
Love and success to you all,
Sue xox
