Revolution of the Heart: A Conversation Between Jeff Brown and Sophie Trudeau

Some time ago, I became connected to Sophie Grégoire Trudeau—gender equality activist and the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. A friend had passed some of the books to her years ago, and she began sharing quotes from my work on social media and in various speeches and talks. A friend had passed some of my books to her years ago, and she began sharing quotes from my work, as well as various speeches and talks, on social media. We became friends and found that we had a very similar perspective on many subjects.

Sophie recently invited me to Ottawa to film this dialogue. In it, we discuss many of the themes that we have been dialoguing about: emotional healing; collective shame; gender equality; yoga as an emotional healing tool; the meaningful difference between an emotionally armored survivalist consciousness and a more heartfelt authentic consciousness; new notions of heroism that honor those who courageously hold the space for our feelings and struggles; and the need for a cultural container that invites all of us to self-reveal and support each other in healing and celebrating all that we are.

It is crystal clear that we are at the beginning of a revolution of the heart. The fact that a politically influential figure is dialoguing with and sharing the work of a self-help/spiritual writer reflects that.

The ways of the armored and malevolent warrior are fading. We can no longer play that heartless game. It doesn’t gratify us, it doesn’t connect us, it doesn’t heal us, it doesn’t honor the Earth that houses us, it doesn’t bring meaning into our lives.

We are all magnificent portals of possibility, born to actualize our callings and to live from the heart. We cannot make progress as a species if we cannot heal our traumas and actualize our gifts. We cannot evolve if we are perpetually at odds with each other and our beautiful planet. The time for a deeper healing, a true revealing, an inclusive consciousness, is upon us. It is time for us to bridge our spirituality with our humanness. It is time for us to bridge to each other. If even one of us is left out, we are all lost. Our community is humanity. We rise, or fall, in unison.
