Little Human, Best of Humanity

I’ve never been a person who has my entire life planned out. I haven’t always been confident in making big decisions for myself, but I like how life has turned out for me. I believe that being happy is one of the most important factors in life, and I trust that in wherever life takes me, I will be happy.

I’ve always jumped on opportunities that come my way, trying out experiences that life has to offer – big or small. If you look at my LinkedIn profile, you’ll see the range of things that interest me. I’ve made jewelry, done web development, been a personal assistant, and printed images on t-shirts. I am currently studying Computer Science, which is something I enjoy. I want to end up doing web development once I graduate from Cal Poly.

I consider myself lucky because I am extremely close with both of my parents. I have always being encouraged by my dad, Mr. Handyman, who has taught me the mechanics of anything he has fixed for me. Over time, I eventually learned how to fix things for myself. This not only helped me develop my fine motor skills, but to this day, it impresses my friends when I can replace my own headlights or engine coils. I can fix their sinks, cupboards, or door knobs, or think up a really obscure solution to fix a problem that anyone is having. Buying my first staple gun and drill was way more exciting to me than most would think. The best perk of having really awesome parents is the way they have raised me to have sincere confidence in myself and empathy for others. If it wasn’t for my parents, I don’t think I would’ve found that perfect balance of sensitivity and power.

I do everything I can to ensure those around me are okay, whether they need advice, company, or someone to vent to. I believe empathy is an invaluable trait because it helps those being empathized with feel less alone. Not everyone we come across has people to depend on emotionally, good friends, or even someone to smile at. Imagine how much better the world could be if everyone had strong enough relationships with at least one person they felt they could be emotionally vulnerable with; it could especially help those who suffer from mental illness. As a college student, I feel like ‘emotionally intimate friendships’ are very underrated among my peers. I see so many people around me trying to be social butterflies rather than forming close bonds with anyone. Those bonds are so important, because without them you can’t establish a support system for one another.

If there was one thing I could wish for everyone, it would be confidence and self-love. It makes me sad that some people think really lowly of themselves, and I am thankful every day that I possess these traits. I love me, and I love those around me.
