Sometimes we tend to forget that we are girls. It might be because of the society we have, in which casual dating is so easy, or it’s because we try to get by and settle for anything as long as it can be called a relationship.

Once upon a time, I dreamed and envisioned myself experiencing the old Filipino style of courting. Not because I’m an old-fashioned geek, or I don’t want to be in the modern world of fast-paced dating, but because of the feelings, effort, and sincerity that a man put in.

I love the old days: the love letters, the red roses, the surprises that could make one shed tears of happiness.

Girls wanted to be in love not because they were in love with the idea of being in love but because of the ecstatic feeling that they felt.

I deeply know that relationships are a roller-coaster ride, and sometimes you will be comfortable with each other and no longer exert any efforts.

No more red roses, no more celebrations with monthsaries and anniversaries, no more surprises.

We know that, being women, that stuff is unimportant. Maybe we would like to focus on our careers, savings, and other things, but I know deep down in our hearts, we would like to be on cloud nine even if we have been in a relationship for 10 or even 20 years.

I hope and pray for the women out there who are silently watching other girls receive this kind of attention. I pray that they also experience being in love each day. I hope they also experience a relationship that can always make their hearts flutter, despite the roller-coaster ride.

If a man makes you feel less than because of your achievements, you have to leave them; you don’t need someone who will envy or mock you. If you are in an abusive relationship, leave, even if it means hurting yourself in the process. Remember to always love yourself before any man. If you are no longer happy with your marriage and just fighting for your kids, then it’s time to think about what you are doing, as I don’t want you to end up killing yourself in the process.

Never, ever settle for anything less. You deserve the best, as you are special. You deserve someone who will support you in achieving your dreams in life. You deserve all the efforts, and to be loved and respected the way you should.

You deserve all the happiness in the world, beautiful.

Keep fighting, Keep dreaming, Keep loving yourself.
